Objectives

 
The specific objectives O1–O4 and related workpackages WP1-WP4 are

 

 
O1 – Martensite structure and intrinsic mobility of twin boundaries (WP1 Structure) will be studied theoretically and experimentally in 10M, 14M, and NM martensitic phases of Ni-Mn-Ga based MSMAs.

 

 
O2 – Twin formation and twin-twin and twin-defect interactions (WP2 Twins) and their effect on twin boundary mobility will be studied and evaluated.

 

 
O3 – Methods of twin microstructure control (WP3 Control) will be designed, investigated, and tested.

 

 
O4 – Properties of created microstructures (WP4 Properties) will be tested, partly also with regard to application properties of the material.

 

 
The core objective is O3. O1 and O2 provides theoretical and experimental background for O3. Objective O4 will serve for testing of outcomes of objective O3. The corresponding expertise of the research groups is illustrated in next Figure:
